2024 Galapagos Islands

The Galapagos have been on my wish list before I die.  We are now able to realize this goal.  The Galapagos are an archipelago of volcanic isleands located in the Pacific Ocean near the equator.  It is a province of Ecuador with about 33,000 inhabitants.  They are famous for their large number of endemic species originally studied by Charles Darwin in the 1830s.  It is part of a marine reserve.

To visit you fly from Quito to the main island, San Cristobal, board a small boat and cruise to the islands.  From the yacht you take a zodiac to actually get to each island.

Our Itinerary and Boat

Galapagos itinerary map_edited.jpg

We are cruising on the Monserrat Line for 11 days and 10 nights which includes itineraries C+D+A.  I did an analysis of all the islands and chose a line that went to as many as possible. No wifi, so we will be totally cut off with 14 other people (16 in all).   We start with a short visit to Quito and then fly to San Cristobal where we board the yacht.  Galapagos is known for their giant turtles, in fact the name itself means "turtle".  They were previously known as the Enchanted Isles.  Europeans discovered The Islands in the 1500s, but there is evidence that Polynesians knew about The Islands before then.
