April 6, from the itinerary - a free day!
We have a ritual in Buenos Aires.
Sleep in
A big breakfast and sat in same place as 7 years ago
Walk to the Brick Hotel/Sofitel
Across the street to the Patio Bullrich Mall to look for capiberra shoes
Walk to Alvear Palace looking for the gaucho store
Go to the park across the street to look at handicraft stalls
This time we also had a craving for pizza and stopped at a pizza place along the route home. Chris had a 1 liter bottle of Heineken which looked huge. We also had empanadas and were basically stuffed. This didn't bode well for dinner...
We had a rest before continuing with our ritual which is a trip to Casa Lopez to look for leather goods.
The big activity for this day was our 18 course tasting menu, with paired wines, at Aramburu. Perhaps this will become part of our ritual for future trips?
These pictures show the interior of the restaurant and our
table service - not great photos.
To the best of my ability I'll try to reflect all the courses below - I gave up writing them down. Somehow, magically, they are reflected on the above menu.
Courses 1-3 (sparkling wine - really tasty)
Courses 4-6
Course 7
Courses 8&9. I couldn't get a good photo of the wine bottle.... Couldn't be that I had already had about 10 glasses of wine and I don't drink.
Courses 10 & 11. All the courses become muddled by this point
Course 12, I think. It was some sort of shrimp concoction on hot stones. They poured some water over it to force the steam - doesn't come out well in the pictures.
Course 13 - who knows what this was at this point
Course 14 & 15. 14 was octopus, 15 was duck and the Malbec was decanted.
Then we had to move upstairs for dessert. Remember, at the beginning of the evening we were looking down our noses at some asians who were so obviously drunk they couldn't stand up. Now it was our turn and I practically couldn't stand up, much less move upstairs. I wonder why after about 10 glasses of wine.
The rest of the courses
It was midnight by the time we finished. What a wonderful way to pass three hours. I hope this becomes part of our ritual for future trips!
