All good things must come to an end and today - 3/18/22 - we had to endure the 6 hours back to the airport for the flight back to Santiago and a night in the Mandarine Oriental - a wonderful way to end the trip. I won't do a video of today, much of the information is in the post of a few days ago when we arrived. Here are some highlights in gallery format.
Just some general notes: The glaciers we saw yesterday and from the air are part of southern ice field which create their own micro climate- they are receding but not as much as other comparable ones. The Chacabouco River formed the Chacabouco Valley where we were staying. Some of the Andes here have not been climbed or even named.
For the trip back (going I didn't note the length of the journey), we left at 10:15 arrived at 5, so it was about 7 hours. Among the highlights on the way back was a steer in middle of road who didn't want to move. We saw a dog crossing a bridge and not getting out of the way. We stopped for lunch at Ruedas and Rios where Chris had burgers and beer and I had a humongous cheese and mushroom quesadilla. The picture below and on the background of the South American page is the Cerro Castillo (Castle Mountain).
Just as another note, the flight back from Santiago to London was my 100th on BA!
