Day 22 - Coming Back Down South

Per the Itinerary: Leaving Egilstadir, you will thread the coast, driving through multiple fjords and small communities. In Faskrudsfjordur, you can visit the old French hospital, now converted into a boutique hotel. Stodvafjordur has a rock collection exhibition, featuring unique volcanic rocks of the area. Djupivogur has the towering Bulandstindur mountain dominating the landscapes, and finally the town of Hofn is famous for it ́s lobster soup. Keep your eyes open for Atlantic Reindeer but this is the only place in Iceland where you can see them. Overnight in region of Hofn.

There were some lovely sea views on the way to Faskrudsfjordur, unfortunately was a rather overcast day. Not sure what that was on the sign along the way. The town itself wasn't terribly exciting, but I did walk around it. I saw the hospital - the hotel looked nice and was a pity I wasn't able to stay there.

The roads are much better here, at least they are paved. I haven't said much about the bridges which tend to be one way. You have to be careful that the oncoming traffic stops to let you through.

Bulandstindur did dominate the area. I tried to get some shots of it, but it was quite overcaste.

I did have some wonderful lobster soup for lunch.

I didn't see any raindeer:(

The hotel in Seljavellir - Seljavellir Guesthouse - was quite basic. It reminded me of the old motels along the road in the Western parts of the US. I asked the hotel receptionist about the raindeer. She said it was the wrong season, so that's why I didn't see any. I did see geese flying south for winter.

I did try another local beer at the Pakkhus restaurant. I wish I had recorded what I had to eat and the lobster soup I had for lunch:)
