Delhi to Samode Palace - Part 2

As we reached the Rajasthan boarder post we had to pay a tax - it’s interesting to think what it would be like if this was necessary between states in the US:)

As if on queue, immediately across the border I saw a camel (1 hump) which are common in Rajasthan. Evidently you can even find dromedaries, but not where we are going on this trip.

Manoj explained that this state is mainly agricultural - wheat and mustard seed - and marble quarrying - add another reason for the dust in the air. Most of the quarries are very close to Jaipur and we see one as we drive by. He said that mustard oil is used for cooking in the north, peanut oil in the central regions and coconut oil in the south.

I am not one to push for personal information from people and I expect I will learn details about Manoj as we drive together for the next 10 days. It turns out he is from the north of India and lives in Delhi now to earn some money. I am his first tour after Covid and he’s worked with Barbara (travel agent) for over 30 years - rather hard to believe.
