From the itinerary: September 1, 2024: Meet Lisa and Ann in the Business Class lounge at about 9am and catch the 11:50 am BA470 to Venice for 2 acclimatization days/nights before trek begins. Stay in the loft room at the Albergo Marin.
Was up early to catch public transport to LHR Terminal 5. I was sure that everything would be delayed, so I caught an earlier option than I might have needed to. Amazingly the train was on time and the bus left 7 minutes early - we thought maybe because the earlier bus broke down and this was a replacement bus. Good for me, not for others who needed the earlier bus.
I was travelling a bit heavier than normal because I was going to have to check luggage anyway. I was carrying hiking poles and wine….
Lisa and Ann’s flight was delayed by over 2 hours, so I was doubtful they would make it in time for a glass of champagne, meaning I spent about 2 hours in the First Class lounge until I saw their flight land with enough time to get to the lounge.
It was great to see them, and was also glad they could get into the lounge since they were limiting entrance due to crowds.
Our flight was delayed, but that was kind of ok because Kevin Costner was on the flight, probably going to the Film Festival which was also happening.
Food on the flight was probably some of the best I‘ve had on BA - we were offered asparagus pie, shrimp curry or charcuterie - which is what I had.
Kim arrived into Venice about 7 hours before we did - she took a direct flight - and Vena only beat us by about an hour as she took the train from Trieste.
The transport from the airport, once he finally arrived, was quite nice - a van with leather seats. They dropped us in the center of Venice and we lugged our suitcases over a couple bridges to our 1 start hotel.
We were really pleasantly surprised and mine even has a private balcony!
We met for a drink and dinner. Dinner portions were huge and we took home our leftovers for a cocktail party on my balcony in two night’s time.
