First day in Riyadh

Had a laid back first day in Riyadh. I'm still getting over the 8 hours of jet lag coming back from the US on October 3 and am now adding 2 more hours of time difference. Met Mohammad, someone who works with Chris, in the lobby of the hotel and felt very exotic - I wearing my Egyptian kaftan and he in his Thawb.

Also had some wonderful Arabic coffee and dates and then learned how to make cold brew coffee which takes 8 hours to make in a very elaborate glass coffee maker, as well as Syphon Coffee.

Alex and I had one a long time ago - you have two glass balls with a filter between and the bunsen burner heats the water which is pulled into the top ball, mixes with the coffee, and comes back down into the bottom ball.

For lunch we had a light lunch of Babaganoush and lentil soup and a wonderful mint cold drink. Then went to work out in the "Lady's Gym" which was a bit grim, but empty and was well equipped. At least I managed not to knock myself off with the pull down handle on the weights, or actually crushed my skull doing skull crushers.

For dinner had a huge buffet after 7pm, so didn't get much sleep. So much for eating light. Our total food bill was over 200 GBP for 4 meals (2+2).

We didn't go outside at all today. I went out for a few minutes to look at the 600 year old olive tree from Lebanon and it was really hot....
