I finally arrive at about 3:30pm (8/25/19) to the Victoria Falls Hotel, sans 1 suitcase.
On my way to the hotel it was so interesting to see how people were dressed as they walked along the streets. It was also funny to see a KFC - something for Chris:). There was also some interesting artwork.
The Hotel is a beautiful old building in the colonial style and situated about half a mile from The Falls - you can see the spray and hear the thunder from the Falls.
The Hotel was built ca. 1904 - Victorian construction - and was originally built to house the workers who built the bridge over the gorge which now doubles as the boarder between Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Right outside the hotel is the Rovos Rail station - each day you hear the whistle as the train comes from S. Africa.
I check into room 35 which has a view of the bridge. The two twin beds are hung with mosquito netting which I hope I don’t have to use:)
Afternoon cream tea is from 3-5:30, so avail myself. The cost is quite reasonable at US$15 for a traditional 3 tier offering of scones, sandwiches and sweets.
That afternoon I meet the resident warthog family as I got to know the property.
Had a quick wash of laundry
and went down for a specially prepared gin and tonic
then for a rest before dinner - venison and potatoes
