Inagh Valley - a sad and beautiful place through which the Famine Road occurred

ok - this is NOT doonlachen, it's the Inagh Valley. This valley separates the 12 Bens from the Maamturk Mountains. We tried to hike Benbrack Mountain, but there was no trail, so gave up and explored. We did find one hill across from Benbrack which was more hospitable and climbed to get the most of the really beautiful view across Kylemore Lough towards the mountains one way and towards the sea the other way.

This area is known for many things. It is the valley through through which the Famine Road ran in 1847 when the starving, promised food vouchers, trekked across the valley only to be disappointed. Many died along the way.

During the Battle of Independence in 1820, there was a battle nearby. The Irish hid in Benbrack.
