Laguna del Diablo

April 1, according to the itinerary: Advanced, 1745 feet elevation gain, 7.8 miles. We will hike along a wooded trail overlooking the north face of Mount Fitz Roy. Our route will take us along the Diablo River, the natural habitat of torrent ducks. We will have views of the Cagliero Glacier and the Laguna del Diablo as we will go up.

Guide: Marianna who lives in town and has 6 year old daughter.

Late start at 9:30. Hiked with Chip and Lise. Very chill hike. The weather was light rain and very windy at the top.

Austral Thrush

No animals other than a few birds and this thing. We thought it was a moth that lost its wings, but not sure

We slowly hiked up through the forest and onto the moraine which ended at Laguna del Diablo and the Cagliari Glacier. The pace was slow - even for us:)

The mid point of the hike was a morraine with a wonderful refugio.

You had to take off all your wet things and your boots, but once inside there was a lit fire place and lunch - ham sandwich, soup, and some cookies. Then they made a phenomenal crepe filled with dolce de leche with some powdered sugar on top - yum.

Back down the hill. It was wonderful to have the right protective clothing on and stay dry (it wasn't raining very hard).

There were really yummy cookies for a snack - butter cookies with dolce de leche filling. Dinner was steak/ribs, cheese ravioli, and mushroom stroganoff which had wonderful pot roast in it. There were sides of roasted pumpkin, roasted sweet potato with babaganush on top, and lettuce. Wine and desert wine. Desert was vanilla ice cream and almond ice cream with a drizzle of toffee sauce on top.

It was a full moon and I managed to get these photos from our window.
