Last Night Before EBC

September 28, 2019 from the itinerary: Continue the ascent to Lobuje. The trail climbs steeply out of Dingboche past a chorten and ascends the valley gradually to Dugla at the end of the terminal moraine of the Khumbu Glacier. From here we have a short, steep climb up to Chukpo Lari, a beautiful, yet poignant place where there is a line of memorials in tribute to the climbers who have died on Everest and from where we have a beautiful panorama of the peaks lying on the Nepal-Tibet border. The trail then eases off as we follow the valley to Lobuje, a tiny hamlet with a few teahouses. The sunset on Nuptse is not to be missed. Tea-house (sleeping altitude 4,930m). Distance traveled 4 miles, altitude increase, 580 M.

This was an amazing day. Arriving to Chukpo Lari in the quiet, foggy snow made for a very mysterious and spiritual visit. Most interesting memorials were for the Russians and also for the 4 year old girl brought up to Everest by her parents - got to wonder about those parents....

We saw some high altitude cows - looked very shaggy

The weather was very overcast, so no view. We barely were able to see the glacier which is a shame because we heard a lot about it. It used to be quite large, but now has receded and looked more like a big empty white rock bed.

No beautiful sunset views for us - only low clouds.

Our tea house for the evening was very crowded and everyone wanted to dry things by the central stove.

This tea house had quite a lot of interesting wall hangings from different people and groups making the trek.

The corridors and doors to our rooms were very exotic.
