The Southwest Coast Path is a 630 mile long distance path stretching from Minehead in Somerset to Poole Harbor in Dorset. From 8 -11 August 2023 I will be hiking the trail from Minehead to Combe Martin, approximately 35 miles.
It is considered to be one of the hardest parts of the trail and it is part of my final training for my hike up Mount Fuji next week. I had a relatively light pack for the week.
Today was a travel day, by train from Liphook to Guildford and then up to Taunton and then by bus to Minehead. I finally arrived at 9pm.
Luckily I took an earlier train because there were a number of cancellations due to bricks falling in a train tunnel.
When I changed trains, they put me in main cabin instead of first. I moved when I figured it out. Food is included in the train fare, but there were no sandwiches available during the journey.
The weather was beautiful. I had to wait about an hour for the bus. I thought it would be hard to find, but it must be a very popular route as there were a lot of signs - hard to miss.
The bus ride - about 90 minutes - was a beautiful ride. Towards the end of the ride I could see the hill at the start of my hike for tomorrow. The villages along the way are very charming.
By the time I got to the hotel it was closed and I had to find the night manager. I was staying at The Beach Hotel right at the beach front and next to the old railway.
