From the Itinerary 23 September, 2019: Follow the Dudh Kosi and ascend to Namche Bazaar, with time to explore the Sherpa villages Heading out of Phakding we follow the Dudh Kosi northwards. This day's walk takes us through magnificent forests with glimpses of the mountains ahead. We cross the river several times by bridges as we pass through the villages of Benkar, Monzo and Jorsale. A final bridge brings us to the foot of the steep climb to Namche. Halfway up this ascent, we may get our first glimpse, cloud-permitting, of the summit of Everest appearing majestically behind the great ridge of Nuptse-Lhotse. A last 300m of climbing brings us to Namche Bazaar, the Sherpa capital and the main town in the area. Namche is a prosperous Sherpa town and an important trading centre. It has a weekly market on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning but the town bustle all day every day with trekkers, coffee shops, bakeries and stores selling all kinds of trekking and climbing gear as well as Tibetan souvenirs. 9 miles and 790 M altitude increase.
Here is our route for today
And this is our group in front of the teahouse where we stayed last night
We go through some areas of stupas and have some wonderful views
Some of the forests have unique wildlife - unfortunately, we didn't see any of it. Also, we repeatedly see traps for some animal - not sure which or for what....
and cross our first bridges which really brings the feeling of adventure home. You can see the scale when you see the picture of the hikers and the bridges.
about half way to Namche Bazaar we stop at a tea house for lunch. It's a lovely stop just after a waterfall. Some people were keeping rabbits - I don't want to know why and the hutch was too small:(
our luggage went by as we were eating
lots of yaks....
We stopped at a gateway into a national park and this one had a formal entrance. After entering we had a lovely downhill part of the trip before hiking back up hill to Namche
Most things came up on someone's back - everything from food to building materials. I savored every mouthfull.
