Santa Cruz Island

From the itinerary: Santa Cruz Island: Black Turtle Cove / Bachas Beach

Michelle left us this morning- we will miss her.

Now we started our final few days. coming in were 6 Canadians a French couple and a Dutch couple.

We had an early start this morning and were greeted by a flotilla of golden rays

Before starting for Black Turtle Bay

We saw a large number of white tipped sharks

And a few turtles, like this one trying to swim upstream into a quiet pool

and these

And some leopard rays

A Black-crowned Night Heron

And Brown Pelicans

Before coming back to the boat for breakfast- fruit, scrambled eggs and a corn pancake

We decided to stay on board and enjoy the breeze instead of getting off to the hot beach during refuelling. Then we hung out until lunch when the meal repeated itself from the first day- spaghetti and salad with fruit salad for dessert . This time I ate all of it.

We had 10 new people join us and this group was a much different mix than the prior group. It consisted of 6 Canadians, 2 French ladies, a Dutch couple. I miss our last group:(

Bachas Beach was a disappointment. We started with a nature walk. It was somewhat interesting because there were several turtle nests which were the first ones we saw on the trip. The lagoon had one lonely flamago and one marine iguana. It was a hot walk with horse flies and I forgot my bug spray back on the boat.

The snorkeling was awful - turgid, a lot of other snorkelers and some algea blooms.

Jose was able to find a blowfish

and so did I

I saw some starfish

and Jose saw a sea anemone and some coral which looked pretty healthy

and I saw some too

We also saw some blue coral

Bizarrely a boat came out after we were all back on board and preparing to leave. It was Maddie and Diane joining us from Australia. They just booked to join us in town and joined us late.

We had our welcome drink which is now “old hat” since this is the third time around. It was a “normal” diaquiri.

Dinner was shrimp and mash potato and was quite good

Tonight we were cruising all night (11 hours) to get to our starting activities for tomorrow.
