21-26 October, 2024. We went from the best day of the trip to the worst day of the trip. Chris got very ill with vertigo. I won't go into the detail here, but the site-seeing portion of the trip was cut short and we got to know the local health system. Thank goodness for support from Explora, Arturo (the head of the Bolivian Operation) and Elsa, our guide. We are now home and safe and Chris is on the mend. As of this writing (5 November), I just submitted the travel insurance claim.
During these days I was able to get some interesting photos which I will post.
Time-lapse photo of the last morning at the lodge
Final sunset as I was driven back from packing out of the lodge
some of the recent views reminded me of this view of Mars...
The hospital was in Uyuni City
The local market on a market day
and a magic shop (those are llama fetuses) to buy a spindle
The old train line came into Uyuni, which means "meeting place". The town was a result of a traditional meeting place of caravans. The train station is closed now.
The local train museum. The bathrooms in some of the train cars were better than those we used....
The bus station was designed by Eiffel (of Tower fame)
A wonderful local cafe called the Llama Cafe where everything is llama
After discharge we moved to a local hotel
Finally getting on the plane home - from Uyuni to LaPaz to Santa Cruz to Madrid to London
We finally saw some of the mountains when leaving LaPaz
so happy to be home.
Llama Fetuses?😳
