Today's trip was mostly downhill and in two parts. Part I was Oughtershaw to the Ribblehead Train Station and Part 2 was the Dent Train Station to Dent.
The beginning of the trip was concerning because we were actually on the Dales Way which meant "closish" to the river which meant lots of wet. Also, looking at the map, there were lots of rivulets which crossed the trail. Plus the trail trended up and I didn't really want to walk "up" any more.
We followed the path for a few miles until we got to a road and then started following the road, just because it was easier. That said, the road went down steeply and then up just as steeply.
In the distance we could see the train station and the Ribblehead Viaduct. The rain had stopped, but we weren't sure if the path was flooded. We weren't sure if we could cross the last river and we were starting to get tight on time. Luck was with us and we made it in time. The station is charming and there was a waiting room out of the wind where I could take my shoe off for a few minutes and fix my toe.
The 10 minute ride to Dent Station shows the beautiful landscape and the mile long tunnel. We had an expensive cup of coffee on the train and got off for our last 4 mile walk into Dent. The weather was finally beautiful and the walk into Dent began with a steep downhill. Then we walked along the road which paralleled the river until we got into the charming village of Dent.
The Stone Close B&B is a very old building. Our room was in the 16th century portion with its original fireplace. Every time a car came down the cobblestone street it sounded as thought it was going to come right through our window. For dinner we went down the street to the pub where I ordered toad in a hole and Chris ordered fish and chips. I didn't like mine, so we swapped and the fish and chips was really good. I had a nice local cider to drink.
The streets were very dark on the way home - I wish we could have seen the sky because I bet the stars were fabulous! We walked just over 11 miles today (2/21/22).
